keep yourself safe. Turn on your hazard lights to warn other drivers. If
possible, move your vehicle to the side of the road to avoid blocking traffic.
Once you're in a safe spot, set up warning triangles or flares if you have
them, placing them a good distance behind your car. This will help other
drivers see you. Next, call for help. Use your mobile phone to call roadside
assistance or a towing service. If you don't have a phone, look for the nearest
emergency phone or ask a passing driver for help. While waiting, stay inside
your vehicle with your seatbelt on, especially if you're on a busy highway.
Keep your doors locked and only open the window a little if someone approaches
to offer help. Finally, stay visible and alert.
